Paul-César Helleu was a friend to Giovanni Boldini. Helleu, too, understood sexy. Some artists communicated a joy for color, others a mastery of massing and composition. Some preferred the narrative. Like John White Alexander, these gentleman enjoyed the portrait; capturing and communicating the person of the subject … and when the person was sexy we are given electric images.
