Over Forty People Shot at Fort Hood – Classic "Gun Free Zone" FAILURE

2009/11/06

NOVEMBER 05, 2009, at Ft. Hood, Texas, an apparently lone gunman, armed with handguns, fired between forty-four and fifty rounds at fellow soldiers and others at the base. The rampage ended when an off-base policeman opened return fire and neutralized the shooter. 13 people are dead, another 30 are suffering wounds, and the “alleged” shooter is in hospital under guard.

Fifty shots? Even in ‘rapid fire’, it takes one Hell of a long time to discharge fifty rounds from a pair of handguns. Moreover, it takes significant patience to shoot 43 people. Si Vis Pacem asks why it took so damnably long to neutralize the shooter… This rampage echoes the debacle at Virginia Tech on a number of levels.

November 05th marks another day in the failure of authoritarian personal-disarmament policy. Fort Hood, Texas, is officially a thou-shalt-not-carry “weapons-free” zone. The policy is intended to safeguard personnel and visitors at the base. Law abiding soldiers and citizens became victims of a sadistic monster and victims of a policy that left them defenseless.

Personal-disarmament regulations served better the coward… who knew his victims would be very slow to respond with force.

If you seek Peace, seek first Liberty.

Update: The Other McCain quotes from Lt. Col. Allen West (Ret) campaign website:

The most importantly thing right now is that we objectively assess this situation,” West said. “But it is imperative that we take steps to make sure this does not happen again.

May we respectfully suggest that we begin by allowing our Soldiers and Marines to (ahem) arm themselves?Gun-free” hoplophobia is literally killing us.

Update: From the Guardian: “Twelve people were killed and 31 wounded yesterday when a US soldier went on a rampage at Fort Hood military base in Texas before he himself was shot by a policewoman.” She is reported elsewhere on Fox Radio to have been shot but alive and under medical care. Thank-you officer! God Bless her, Please, and may she fully recover.

Update: The policewoman who shot him is reported by The Chron as Sgt. Kimberly Munley. Pam at Atlas Shrugs celebrates Sgt. Munley.
