Via Smitty: Daniel Hannan & Interesting Point From Across The Pond

Smitty has the link to Daniel Hannan’s blogpost.

Thomas Jefferson, whose bust stares at me as I write this blog, had wanted to include a touching phrase in the Declaration, but his fellow authors excised it: “We might have been a great and free people together”.

Peg Noonan also mentioned this today in Declarations. Anyone who has read Bernard Bailyn’s Ideological Origins of the American Revolution will know that Jefferson truly meant what he had intended to say.

Certainly Churchill understood this in his mind and his guts.  The Iron Lady, too – her relationship to Reagan changed the course of History. Never mind that the bust of Winnie was sent home.  Winnie shall return, and Britain shall “arise again and take [her] stand for freedom as in the olden time.

Thoughts on the Revolution, below.
