William-Adolphe Bouguereau: Rapture of Psyche, Revisted

We are revisiting an old friend: William-Adolphe Bouguereau’s Ravissement de Psyché (Rapture of Psyche) of 1895. This work is known also as The Abduction of Psyche and as Cupid and Psyche.  Bouguereau often worked with preliminary sketches, many of which survive to this day as prized works in themselves. One such study is offered below, along with a better image of the master painting.
