To My Daughters Taking U.S. History: “And So My Fellow Americans, Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You…”

2010/10/14

…But What You Must Do For Yourself, Your Family and Your Community.

Honey,  President John F. Kennedy was wrong; very wrong.

Our military and our efforts to defend Liberty demand sacrifice and suspension of individual freedoms, doing for our country what others are unwilling or incapable of doing.  President Kennedy was not talking about this.  Rather he talked of joining social service organizations that did for others what they ought to be doing for themselves.  His admonishing America’s youth to ask “what you can do for your country” was nothing other than the flip side of the social dependency racket.  Parasitical selflessness isn’t altruism or patriotism or even particularly noble, for Liberty is not protected or expanded.

If you want to do something for your country, you might join the military or one of our security services, or you might build Liberty at home.

Love you tons,

Dad

Thank you Ran. I take that as high praise coming from you, and I am honored.
